iPhone without ATT [Archive]

Ok maybe I'm not searching the thread correctly. My buddy gave me his iphone gen1 with 2.1 installed. No ATT service.

Is there a way to connect through wifi to use it like an ipod touch? I have tried and tried and tired to connect this by inputting my WEP key and nothing happens.
Does anyone know how to get arround this or if I'm doing something wrong can you tell me?

yes the wi fi should work normally just like it was an iPod touch.

If I were you I'd restore it and then jailbreak / unlock it. It will unlock for "any" carrier, and you can just bypass that and it should work with wifi after that.

This should work fine. Maybe your computers firewall is blocking it (just a guess)?
