Iphone universal remote control

I've been using the remote app in my iphone to control my itunes through a computer on the wifi network. I love this application and would now love to control my av switches, tv, stereo... all with my iphone. Is there anything that can do this?

iPhone doesn't have an IR port, so unless your components are Wi-Fi enabled or have bluetooth you're out of luck. However, some high end home theater systems work with those protocols and if you look at the ap store you'll see various remote solutions for them.

sure, but how do I find what components or switches work with wifi or bluetooth?
I've seen some of the remote apps but haven't been able to find any composite or component switches that are bluetooth or wifi.

There is supposedly an app for the iPhone to be a remote for U-verse in the future. I haven't seen anything else for TV though.

I'm getting u-verse on nov 1st and did some reading after the last post and saw you might be able to put shows from the DVR on the iPhone in the future. I don't like trusting AT&T with my Internet, but my mom has it and it is way better than time warner on the tv side esp with hd

I have been nothing but happy with my u-verse. The internet with att hasn't given me any problems, I've had it for 8 months now. I like the fact that my tv, internet, cell and home phone are all on one bill.

I know the Internet through them is fine, it's just how forthcoming they are with information and their cooperation in spying

The iPhone could talk a to PC/Server via WIFI, then in turn the PC would have an application that convert the WIFI commands and shoot it out its attached IR transmitter.
