3g slower than edge?

It seems that whenever I'm surfing on the edge network everything downloads much quicker than when I'm on 3g. I've even been in an apartment where one side had 3g, and the other edge and the edge was way faster. Is there something wrong w/my iphone?

I've noticed that happen to me a couple of times.

Sometimes I'll be sitting at home at the computer and the phone will be using my Wi-Fi connection, then it'll switch to using 3G, then to EDGE and then it'll have nothing at all, without me even moving the phone.

It wasn't actually that it was switching networks that I was worried about. I was just wondering why whenever I'm surfing on the edge network everything downloads much quicker than on 3g. Why is the 3g so slow? Is there some setting on my iphone that could cause this?

i've noticed that rarely, but i'm betting it's more of a network issue than an iphone issue. i've used 3G in 7 different major cities in the US with the iphone the past few months and it varies by location within each city.

Yeah 3G does have mood swings. Sometimes it flies, other times it is slow, other times it just doesn't work at all. I have hardly used 3G on other phones so I don't know whether this is specific to the iPhone or whether it happens on all phones, which people don't use as much so people don't notice that 3G is overhyped.
