I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way of making the Ipod interface kit offered by Audi more useable. As others have commented, out of the box, the interface treats an Ipod as a CD player, with the first 5 CDs representing the first 5 playlists on your Ipod and the 6th CD representing a list of all songs on the Ipod. Unfortunately, titles of songs, names of artists, etc. are not displayed on the MMI, only a generic Track 1-99.
While I understand that this kit is incapable of displaying the titles of the songs (or other information) through the car's LCD interface, I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way of at least allowing one to select songs through the Ipod while continueing to play the music through the audi sound system. In otherwords, I am wondering if there is a simple way of making this interface work more like an audio jack with the Ipod?
I see that others have found that third party cables that go from a female IPod plug to a standard 3.5mm port do not work with car interface kits which (even in a limited fashion) control the Ipod.
What I am not sure of is if anyone has experimented with using/modifying a male to female IPod extension cables (offered by some third parties) to perhaps trick the car interface into acting as an audio jack. More specifically, I have noticed that if I do not fully plug my Ipod into the Audi interface (tilting the plug so it is not inserted on the right side), I am able to continue to control the Ipod while still having its music pumped through the car's stereo system. This makes me think that some modification may be possible, but do not want to damage the car's interface kit without more information or perhaps using the male/female extension cord as a go between.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
