Ok I need some help cuz this is driving me nuts. This is what's wrong:

on my ipod on my iphone, I have Justin Timberlake listed twice. When I click on one, it has two albums on there but only about half the songs from each album. When I click on the other JT name, it has the SAME two albums but the rest of the songs. How do I get it to all be combined?

BTW this isn't just for JT, it is happening to a couple other artists too.

and in my itunes library on the album view section it shows the same artist listed twice or more as well.

Sometimes, and for some reasons unknown, record labels will spell artist names or album title slightly different. It may be just using a capital letter on one, and not the other, or have 'featuring' in the title or similar if its sung with someone else.

The easiest way to do it, is to go into iTunes, right click on the album and info then change the name to whatever the artists name is or the album title is (even if you are only copying what is already written). Do the same for the other listing of the album, making sure you spell it the same as the first one and it will group them together. Open the albums up and highlight all the tracks and do the same (this may not be necessary, as the first step should do this, but i do it any way). This will ensure that all the tracks have the same artists and album title name spelt the same.
Re-sync, and it should be ok.

On some albums you may need to change the album title to stop them from being under one album despite different artists. For instance, all albums with the title 'the best of', or 'greatest hits' will be grouped together no matter who the artist is. They need to be spelt differently to distinguish them, even if its only slightly (a capital letter for instance).

Generally in a situation where there is a wrong spelling of the album name, the songs end up being "split" between the two artists.

In this situation the OP seems to say that the songs aren't split, but in some cases duplicated.

To me this points to a different situation where some of the songs have "sort info" and others don't.

If after you make sure that you aren't dealing with albums or artists that have spaces, etc, clear the sort info for all of justin timberlake (or make sure all songs have sort info) and that should fix the issue.

Yeah iPods are really freakin anal.

You may have the artist's name spelled correctly for every song, but if there is even a space after the final letter for one song, and the same space is not on another song, then it will be listed differently!

They can design a super small MP3 player... but they can't design a user friendly song sorting system. Go figure.
