Hello,

I am concerned about how frequently the iPhone 3g requires topping up. I usually have to have the device plugged into my car charger because the battery drains fast. I don't even make a lot of calls as this is not my primary phone.

I had full capacity last night and woke up with 20% battery life when I woke up this morning. I think it's because I only get 2 bars of 3G in my apartment.

I have GPS off, Wi-Fi on only when I am using browser, screen to almost minimum brightness, 3g on. I was warned that you would have to charge this midday but this is kinda ridiculous.

Anyone having the same problem? Does your 3g last even half a day?

Mine will last most of the day if i dont use the 3g to surf too much. Usually I'm at 20% warning by the end of the day. I've also read and tried to disable to location services in settings and that seemed to make the battery last longer with 3G still enabled.

once every other day. the tip, blue tooth off, only turn on in car and turn it off when I don't use it. wifi off I pay for unlimited 3G data so I use it. wifi is only on if I really need/want the extra speed otherwise it's fine. push mail once an hour. for the part that's fine. and if I really want to check it I will. screen brightness I keep it low. and don't use auto mode. if I need it bright I will change it, most of the time I don't need it that bright.

I can tell you when I first got it I would drain it in 3 hours but I was using it like a madman.

My use is similar to zardoz66.

Settings:
auto brightness: on
push: off
fetch: every hour
location services: off
GPS: off
3G: off (unless there isn't wifi available, then 3G for 30 mins or less)
wifi: off until needed
screen brightness: tad higher than lowest setting

Also, always make sure you exit to the home screen when you go to sleep or won't be using the phone for a while. Sometimes apps run in sleep mode and can drain the battery quick like. ALSO, turn 3G off when you are sleeping too. The low signal is causing your 3G antenna to constantly struggle finding a stronger signal.

With my use and settings I still have to charge twice a day, and that is with heavy to moderate use. I don't talk on the phone much, but I check mail, surf the web (wifi), go on myspace and feeds applications frequently. Usually my battery will drain to about 60% by mid day, with a charge needed somewhere in the evening.

I happen to only charge at night, but when I'm on my computer I plug it in as well.

3G on
Wi-Fi on, when I want it
Location + GPS on
Push off
Fetch every 15 minutes
Brightness on auto

I only charge every other day and even then I'm usually at 30%. I leave everything on and I use push instead of fetch. The 2.1 software gives me 10 % more at any given point as compared to the 2.0.x software.
