I have a first gen iTouch. I downloaded and converted a movie to .avi but also have it in .mov format. I get a message reading that it cannot import to the iTouch. Any way to import the movie. I don't think it's a protected file since it's a demo of a musical instrument.

I am also having the same problem. I use videora to convert movies for the ipod touch and sometimes I get an error message saying that the video cannot be imported onto ipod touch because it cannot be played. The weird thing is that I already had the video on my ipod but now I get this error.

I'm using quick time pro. The movie was never on my iPod but it is in iTunes.

The .mov file needs to be formatted correctly for the iPod; select it in iTunes and then choose the "Convert selection for iPod" item in the Advanced menu; wait..... then load it onto the Touch.

How come the touch doesn't support avi files? possible to jailbreak it so it can play avi files?

The iPod touch doesn't support AVI video files as AVI is just a video container which can house all sorts of video formats including mpeg-2, mpeg-4, mpeg-1, mpeg-4 AVC, divx (a form of mpeg-4), xvid (another form of mpeg-4), uncompressed video, WMV, WMV VC-1, and so on. That would mean that the iPod touch can only support a very small selection of possible AVI video files. That and the AVI container does not support advanced audio features that the mpeg-4 container supports. On top of all that, Apple is really pushing the mpeg-4 container, video formats, and AAC audio format.
I don't think that jailbreaking an iPod touch allows for AVI video playback as I don't think that there are any apps out there to do this.
