iPhone 3G options for 2004 Audi A4 Symphony?

I have a 2004 Audi A4 Symphony (the pain in the butt kind with the Bose speakers, outboard amplifiers, etc). Currently I have a CD Changer cable on the back of the head unit which goes to a Phatbox. The Phatbox is an OK solution as the sound quality is good and it works with the factory radio controls, but it's kind of a royal pain to keep the music on it up to date (you have to synch it up on a PC, etc).

I'm wondering what my options are for integration to an iPhone 3G? Ideally I would find something that would integrate to the Audi head unit and charge/control the iPhone while still letting me take calls on it, use future GPS functions, etc.

I went into a local retailer and they tried to steer me towards the higher end dual DIN Kenwood units that have an iPod hook up. Seems like over kill to me.

This ipod interface will do all that you need,but it is not going to charge, there is no adaptor that charges 3g ipods there will be a cable swap for this unit in 3 months

this plugs into the cd changer plug your mp3 will need to be unplug

So, although there is no charging capability with this unit there will be a version in a few months that will charge the 3G and other newer 5V only iPods?

If so this sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Looks like it will allow me to work the iPod as well so I could still use various functions or even take a phone call if I had to.

Yes that is correct they are working on a new cable for the new ipods
when that is available the cable will be replace but you still use the same interface

The gateway 300 from dension should do - you can control the ipod from the stereo or from the ipod (2 modes) & it supports 5 volt & also has USB

I can't find any info at all on Dension site about iPhone 3G compatibility and they haven't updated manual/firmware on the gateway 300 since at least March/April of this year. Can you provide some extra info about this product working for the new iPhone, because I've also searched the Audi World forums and can't find info on this functioning.
