View Full Version : Is color important to you (for your iPods)?

For me, definitely.
When I bought my first iPod all that was available was white or black.
But I really really really wanted a Nano when they came out with all those nice colors, especially the DAMN awesome blue color. I waited though because it really wasn't worth the money for me at that point. I bought a pink Shuffle though because I liked the pink so much.. thinking I could rest assured I'd get a blue Nano someday so the Shuffle could be any color. Well while a nice pink, it's kinda hard to wear in public. Just is.
Then... the darkness came. The fatty Nanos came out with the most awful putrid colors imaginable. That is THE reason why I didn't buy one. If they had used a good blue I would have bought one right away.
Finally when they announced the 4G Nanos I was SUPER SUPER SUPER happy they brought back the 2G blue. But then I saw it in person it wasn't exactly the same.. but still nice so I bought it. When I brought it home it looked even differently but still nice. And it really depends on the lighting.

Color is slightly important only in so much as it's something I can live with. Features are far more important, but if you get a choice of color with the features you want, you might as well enjoy the choice.
When I decided to get my first iPod, it was a choice between the 3G full iPod or a 1G mini, I knew from reading I really wanted the clickwheel and USB charging over the 3G, so mini it was for features. Then color entered the equation: silver, blue, green, pink, or gold. I couldn't stand the mini pink or gold and, much like the white of larger iPods, found that silver was rather generic and bland, so I waffled between blue and green. I chose blue but always liked the green.
The update the nanos came out, based on rumors, I figured we were getting a color screen mini and I figured I was going to grab a green... Then we got the downgraded in almost everything except size 1G nanos; I wasn't touching those with a 10 foot pole, so a month later when the 5G full iPods came out I opted for one in black, a no-brainer choice since I dislike the white toaster-chic.
When I decided to buy a nano, again, features, not color made the primary choice, and since the 8GB only came in one color, black, the decision of which color was not hard.
Had last year's nanos been available in 16GB for $249 or less, I'd have gladly bought one. The colors didn't bother me at all - would have gone for green, looked like Wintergreen Tic-Tac :D. It was the limitation of 8GB of storage when I already had 8GB of portable storage with no other significant upgrade other than video, that stopped me from getting one.
This year, based on finally having a mix of features I want enough to spend money on, I just got a 16GB 4G nano and opted for green. Silver, yellow, and pink were out for the reason of disliking them enough to not want to carry them around with me. I rejected black simply because I figured I might as well do something different and the last two iPods were black. Then I let my 4 y.o. daughter choose what I should have from the remaining colors, and green it was.

When I bought my first iPod, my choice was white or silver - depending on which way I held it. Since I normallly held it with the screen facing me, it was going to be white.
For the second iPod, it was white or black... I didn't (and still don't) like the black, so I once again bought white.
The third iPod I bought at a fundraiser auction for my sister's group, so I had no choice. It was black, and I don't mind. Black, for a 1G iPod nano, is actually the better colour, I think.
The fourth iPod, once again, had two options, based on which side I was looking at.
I was looking at the new iPod nanos over the weekend, because my sister told me she wanted a yellow one, and I liked them. The purple really stood out to me. I like the silver with the black click wheel, and of course the blue and green... but if I were to buy one, I'd buy the (RED). I like the colour, but I also like the cause.

Oooh, I don't normally go for the brighter colours, but on the site the colours looked so beautiful! I liked the silver and red, but when I went in person to see the colours, the silver didn't look nice at all. the black looked a lot nicer, and I had thought that looked horrible online lol.
The other colours weren't available at the time, so I thought 'stuff this' and ordered the red one off the net, and it was awesome!!! I love the deep red colour, and the fact that it has a metallic effect to it too, but I just wasn't sure about how it would look when it arrived...It passed the test!!!
I liked the blue one too, but I thought the green and yellow looked awful (online)...the orange and pink looked okayish.

I ended up getting a blue nano 4th gen because on a daily search for the 16gig version best buy was the first to get them in and only had pink and blue and after a week I am glad I got blue since every other ipod I have had has been either white or black.

well some peoples fashion sense changes more often than mine lol, i always thought ipod should only be white, forever, but i really like the silver, & the black, not too keen on these silly colours, imo, they are 'fun' colours & should be restricted to the smaller models.
but who am i to decide this for anyone!? :p

I've always licked the white ones so my first three iPods were all white but I didn't have much choice with my touch. If I got a nano though color would be essential.

I have had 3 nanos:
2g Red
3g Reddish
4G Ordered blue, went to green took it back for red, almost went with purple. The 4g red is pretty tight. Although purple was a VERY close 2nd. If you put it in a case that is a solid color it doesn't matter what hue the player is.
The green seemed to passive and wimpy for me. Red seems to make more of a statement. Because my coolness and hip factor are determined by my ipod....Oy vay.....

The new nano's are really cool but I'm not sure I'd want my ipod classic to be in some bright colour. Silver works for me and I had a black classic before this. Standard colours are best for the bigger models I think.

Color is important to me. The only color I would ever want in an ipod is white, which apple doesn't make anymore.

I love having colorful stuff, including iPods! I've got the orange iPod nano on order right now, so I can't wait!
I think it's good that Apple have given us so many choices, and all of them are the same price. Finally, Apple did something right.

My 1st gen Nano is white and my 3rd gen is silver. If I had to replace my third gen with a fourth gen I would choose blue.

My iPod Photo is white. I never like the white color of those iPods that includes before even buying it. Both my 160GB iPod Classic and 16GB iPhone 3G are black. To me, black attracts a lot less attention (thus the first 4 gens of iPods were white). For video a black frame around the LCD is less distracting to me. Now, if I was to get a Nano, it would have to be a purple one!
Enjoy life,

I agree with hydroboarder. I only ever liked the white iPods. Clean lines, minimalistic, fresh and bright. Wasn't a fan of the black when it first came out, and was disappointed when buying my new iPod last week (after finally giving up on my ancient 3G) with silver as being the closest alternative. As to the new color palette, colors are fine, but I find I get bored with a color after awhile. When I had a phone with a changeable faceplate, I used to switch colors every few weeks/months. For now, if I want color on an iPod (which I don't as yet), I'll get a colored case :)

2 Nanos and a Classic later, I am still on Silver.
I can colour it with a cover or a sticker set.

I like the white. I waited an extra two days to get my 1G nano because Best Buy had run out of white. The silvers nice too for the classic, but the black on iPods show too many scratches.

i dont care about the color that much. i ussually chose black or white (replaced by silver)
I don't care too much of the colours they come in - I customize every laptop and ipod with gelaskins anyway.
So basic white is fine with me.
