Hi,

As many of you know, support for AAC on Windows machines has arrived!!!

I was using a test for audio compression, a .wav file to compare and i find it all a little too confusing.

MP3 - CBR, ABR, VBR
AAC - CBR & VBR

When do i use what, whats the best one to rip CD's at.

What i would really like is a direct comparison, if i use MP3 CBR, i go no lower that 192, but what is 192 in comparison to AAC, is that 128 at AAC or what.

What is the best balance for size and sound quality?

Whats better, when should you use AAC and when should you use MP3.

These are all question that need answering, so i can start ripping my CD's at the best rate, while saving on valuable iPod space.

I hope you can give guidance on this for me.

Many Thanks

Craig

i was wondering the same thing... just got an ipod and am going to be ripping my cd collection. i do 192kb minimum for MP3, is it worth doing the same with ACC, or is 160kb sufficient for CD quality sound??

thanks!!

hi
You're better off going over to hydrogenaudio.org (http://hydrogenaudio.org) and asking there. Many more (and perhaps better?) opinions
