Whats the deal with Genius playlists? Over half my songs on the iPhone say "The song does not have enough related songs" when trying to create a list. Is there something I need to do in iTunes to get the required information first?

my phone didn't show the genius option available until I synced. Then it showed up, but said I need to enable it in iTunes. I'm still unclear on how genius playlists are supposed to work.

Genius is still new. there have been reports on this issue, but only speculation on whats going on. some say the service might not have that type of music in it's data base so it does not know what to match it to. oters say it might be with tagging, others say if you have music that they don't sell that it might not know what to do with it.

at the very least it polly somthing to do with growin pains, and wil get better over time as it collects data.

How much music do you have on your iPhone? If you only have a few songs, it won't be able to generate a list.

I've got 75 albums. it appears I have to go to the "store" menu in iTunes and click "update genius" then most if not all songs that wouldn't work now do. I thought it would have been an automatic process as I added albums?

I don't think it works well with "borrowed" music it seems.

Mine works fairly well with the music I have, 99% is ripped from CDs.

My iPhone is loaded with my type of music.. Elton John, Meat Loaf, Neil Diamond, some Jazz, etc... A lot of easier listening stuff. I've been able to generate Genius playlists off of all my songs and it did a fairly good job of picking stuff out that I'm in the mood for based off of one song.

So the other day I downloaded "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against The Machine on the iPhone. (Guitar Hero Additction...) I couldn't wait to see what it would match from my library for that song... That's the ONLY time I got the afforementioned error message concerning not enough similar music, and it was true. I'm glad it didn't just pick random BS out of my on-phone library and say "This is your genius playlist"

Works fine for me... IMHO 70 albums might not be enough. I have 15gb or so of music, and even popular songs only pull up 15-20 albums when I select genius. Newer music seems less likely to generate a playlist for me.

what's deal with Genius feature? are you kidding me? if you love music, you will love that new feature as well. previously, when you play song on shuffle mode, you hear unlike song then skip, but still unlike song again and again. it is hassle. now with Genius, during listening song, if you like a song, tap on Genius mark. it will produce similar pattern of songs' list up to 100. in order to work with it, you need to turn on genius on itunes, then update the whole music library which will be sent to Apple server. then sync with your iphone or touch. you can see it on that device. I love it.
