I am thinking of buying one of the newer iPod classics. But, how much 'shaking' can the iPod hard drive stand?

I live in Winnipeg (the WORST roads in Canada..potholes everywhere), and I worry that if I put an iPod classic in the car, that the hard drive will be damaged due to the amount of bumps/potholes and crap that the car will be going over.

I've got an 80GB 5.5G; it connects to a Belkin AutoKit and sits inside a duct tape roll that lays on the tranny hump of my F-150. I do a fair amount of dirt road/two-track/job site driving, and I've never had a skip from the iPod. (Plus, I'm in Michigan -- plenty of potholes, too ;-)

I'd be careful, just avoid premature wear and possible drive failure. But a little cushioning around the iPod would probably do just great.

People walk and run and drive with their iPods all the time, and many (most?) of them have been hard disk based.

I have driven many hours with my old 60 GB iPod Photo in a cupholder, with a rag stuffed around it.
