Ok. So, I do not have wifi in my home. I do, however, have a Linksys Wireless Router that allows me to carry my laptop around the house. I checked for wifi connections on my touch and my wireless router was there. So I connected to it and it says I am connected to it but it still won't let me go on Safari. Whenever I try to open up the internet it just says "Safari can't open the page because it is not connected to the internet." So why is this not working? And if there is no way to fix it, how CAN i get a wifi connection in my house?

Are you using WPA on your router? If so, WPA doesn't work with the 2G Touch right now. There is a bug in the firmware.

Many people have had issues with a wide variety of Wi-Fi routers (and just for reference your Linksys Wireless Router is a Wi-Fi router). I'd suggest going through your Linksys router information (usually available from your router manufacturer) and look for information on setting up your router. Otherwise, search the forums and you'll see many discussions about setup, configuration and troubleshooting.

I have 1G, so that isn't the problem. What is WPA?
Also, the router works for my laptop, just not my ipod.

WPA is the encryption key used on your WiFi router (Linksys) and you can try changing it to WEP and see if that fixes the issue. Your router website should have information on this or you can try google to see how to change the settings. usually involves logging into the router via a web-browser and then changing the settings there.

There is a bug with 2.1.1, but here's the work-a-round that I use to connect. I am using a Linksys G Access Point with WAP protection.
Turn Wi-Fi on, select the network. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reselect the network immediately. It should connect then. You'll stay connected as long as you keep Wi-Fi turned on. If you turn Wi-Fi off, you will have to go through the same procedure again to connect.
Hope this helps.

Tried that doesn't work. This happens to people who are using Wep too. We need a fix.

WiFi = Wireless Internet. If you can use your Linksys Router to get online with your Laptop and not use an Ethernet cable between the router and laptop, you have WiFi!
(edit) Sorry, I guess this was established..
Just so my post isn't a complete waste, I use a Linksys Wireless Router 54G. I have a secure network using WPA. The Ipod picked up the signal no problem, accross my house gets a good signal. I had to set the security password once and it remembered the Network, I don't have to redo anything to join it again. I am using firmware version 1.1.4.
I dunno if that helps, but maybe seeing how it SHOULD work will help..
I haven't been trusting the latest batch of Apple updates, their quality control is slipping like mad.

Stereo---what kind of range are you getting with the Ipod Touch? I can't get past 20' By the way, I am using a D-Link 624.

My router is an Apple Airport Express, is about 3 years old. It uses WPA encryption and my Touch2 connects just fine. You have to type the password into it the first time but not after that.
