Library View vs iPhone view in iTunes 8

Just downloaded iTunes 8 and plugged in my iPhone. Seems that the view settings for the iPhone in iTunes is greyed out. I can not choose any view. Typically I like the normal "list" view, where you get those three boxes "Genre", "Artist", and "Albums"...but I can't get that view with the iPhone (to see what's on the iPhone).

Is there a setting I'm missing?
