does the new update help reception for 1st gen iphones?

I was wondering if they fixed any of the issues for the first gen iphones.
My reception is just terrible.
Its my second phone and second sim card as well.
I get voice mails from people that left them 3 hours ago.

I think this was more for 3g networks, but I see no resion not to update anyways.
