So I got Genius for my iPod (and it deleted some songs I downloaded, see the other thread) and it doesn't work. The icon is there and I can click it, but all it says is "Try Again" for all songs. I even tried it on iTunes and it works, how come it doesn't work on my iPod?

Did you sync your iPod after installing the 2.1 firmware?

There are lots of reports of iPod Genius playlists being much less successful than iTunes Genius Playlists. It's possible that iTunes has data that has yet to be synced to the iPod, or it could be that iTunes runs more complex functions that iPod isn't capable of. Not really sure, but hopefully it's more a matter of data being transferred to the iPod, because that, at least, we can hope for improvements on. For my part, I get an occassional song to work, but not most of them. However, if you create a playlist in iTunes and sync it to your iPod, you can then refresh that playlist on the iPod and, maybe, get a slightly different selection of songs.

I found that it got better with time. Somewhere in iTunes there is an option to update your Genius data. If you try that, you may have better luck in the future. Also, if you haven't already, create a genius playlist in iTunes and make sure that playlist is synced to your iPod. I found that generally, once I had done that, I could at least create a Genius playlist for songs in the original genius playlist, although the new playlist was mostly a reshuffling of the old one.

If you can get at least one song to work, then you know the Genius function is doing something, and hopefully it will improve over time. I know mine did, although there's still room for improvement.
