I know there are numerous configurations of iPod dock-connector integration in car stereos (factory and aftermarket), but I'm wondering if any 2G Touch owners are having any difficulty. I see in the 4G Nano forum there are issues with some accessories used for aux (line) out and charging, but no mention of car stereo issues.

Just a little concerned as I have an '09 Fit on order which has Honda's USB iPod integration, and I'm considering the 2G Touch. So, for actual 2G owners with dock-connector solutions in their cars, how is it working out?

I'd check with a 3G Phone owner ... the 3G iPhone is closest in tech to the 2G Touch, and there are better chances of finding a 3G iPhone owner that has a Honda '09 Fit ...

It normally takes car manufacturers and aftermarket companies a few months to catch up with Apple. It took Kenwood about 3 months before they released an update allowing me to plug my 1G iPod touch directly into my car CD deck via a USB connection. I believe that Honda should be the same. After all, these 2009 cars were manufactured before Apple let the details loose about their new product. I am sure that you will be able to update your Fit's console if it isn't compatible from the beginning.

Picked up the new Fit last night (great car BTW) and am happy that the 2G Touch works just fine with the USB interface. The only bummer is that the iPod can only be controlled via the head unit, which means a lot of knob turning to select an Artist down in the Z's! You'd think that scrolling backwards from A to get to Z would be possible, but no such luck, and no "passenger mode" which would allow direct control on the iPod. Oh well, there are a lot of positives to focus on (like 35 mpg!)

Not to get too far off-topic but I almost purchased a Fit about a week ago. I purchased a new car on September 13th, almost one week ago today. I had decided to get a Honda based on customer reviews, their longevity (I still see Honda Civics and Accords on the streets from the 80's), resale value, gas mileage, and overall value of the car.

I could have purchased a fully loaded Fit with the navigation system for less than $18k. I decided to go with a Civic coupe LX even though it had less features. It had the same six speaker sound system but it doesn't have a navigation system or USB interface. I went with the Civic (which was $18k) simply because I liked its looks better. The Fit is just too funky looking for me. That and the front of the Civic couple has more room than the front of the Fit.

I almost purchased it though as the Fit was a 2009 model while the Civic was a 2008 model (the differences between the 2008 and 2009 models are slim to none). Still, the Fit caught my eye simply because it comes with so many features for such an inexpensive price. It just looks too much like a bug to me. I still think that is a good choice over other car manufacturers though. I come from a long line of Ford owners and I now refuse to purchase Ford until they fix their engines and go back to focusing on game mileage. My 1998 Ford Escort gets 38 mpg on the highway and yet a new 2008/2009 Focus gets 30 mpg on the highway. My Civic gets 36 mpg on the highway and 24 in the city. That being said, I have been driving it carefully and I have been able to get 30 mpg in the city and 43 on the highway.

Those numbers just shadow anything that Ford has to offer. That and I should not have to spend $20k on a 2008 Ford Focus that comes with the same features that were standard on my 1998 Ford Escort (which put me back by $14k when I purchased it). I am sorry but a $2,000 price increase just for key less entry, an mp3 CD player, and air conditioning is too much. It was an additional $4,000 price increase to get an automatic transmission and cruise control. That is just ridiculous especially considering that the Focus is Ford's replacement for the Escort which is supposed to be an affordable car.

Anyway, congrats on the new purchase and I hope you enjoy it. I have been enjoying my Civic. I forgot what it was like to go someplace that was 90 minutes away just to go.

I have a Sony CDX-GT420IP head unit with the attached Ipod interface, and it will not work with my new touch 2g.

I've been happily using my nano 4g with the headunit for the past year or so, and not happy at all about having to use the aux input and give up control through the headunit.

From reading information about the charger compatibility issue, looks like a software update will not solve the situation since the affected manufacturers were working around apple's technology with a different hardware technology.
Am I wrong in thinking this?

You have been using a 4G iPod nano for the past year with your deck? Wow, how did you get it so far in advance?:p

A software update might still work. Check Sony's website to see if they offer one. You never know what these companies will figure out when they spend a little time with the 2G iPod touch.

Oops, meant 3g.
I'm not counting out an update, but was more concerned about hardware compatibility in the end.
