Iphone music feezing

I got an Iphone 3g 2 days ago, today i try and use the IPOD part! playing music..

and it was freezing so much it was unbearable, just normal walking and cycling!

i never had any issues with my old ipods freezing.

this common?
have i got a dodgy Iphone and need to get it replaced?

any other thoughts or comments on this?

Where did you get the music from, I seen where Ipods sometimes have issues with crappy encoded music.

mixed really, some of cd some bought of itunes and some torrented..

well i just got new iphone got it exchanged so will test new one in 2 days :)
