I have an older ipod Photo from about 3 years ago. I just (this wednesday) bought the new Touch. I first used the supplied USB cable to charge. Yesterday when I went to charge it I tried plugging in my old Firewire cable charger and noticed a message on the Touch saying that that cable is not supported. So I unplugged it.

I'm wondering if the AC wall charger from the older ipod will work? It uses a USB connector at one end of the cable to plug in to the small white ac/dc brick, so maybe it is in some way more compatible. I would check it myself by plugging it in to but I don't have the wall charger here in my house today. Does anyone know if that older AC wall charger will work?

You never want to take too many chances with a delicate device like the Touch, but it seems like any device meant to deliver a USB-level of charge would be fine. The most likely problem seems like it would be a poorly built USB charger, but if it's Apple's own product, then hopefully that wouldn't be an issue. I have charged my Touch with the charger from my 5th gen iPod and in the dock of an old iPod alarm clock that came out before the Touch did. So far no problems.

I'm having the same problem. My wall adapter that works for my 5.5 iPod and 3rd gen Nano aren't working on my new Touch. I called the local Apple store and they said it should, so I'm bringing it all in to their "Genius" this weekend. If not free, hopefully I can at least get a DISCOUNT on a new charger...

Works fine charging from same PC adapter as the others though.
