So far so good! Speaker is louder, Contacts come up much quicker. Back-ups take no time at all. Like I stated in an earlier post Apple got the worm out of the Apple.

My backups are now taking forever. Tried a few times to see if it was just the first one. They used to take about a minute and now take about 3

Well, here's me checking back after a day of heavier than usual use:
1) Faster Apps Install? - CHECK
2) Better Reception? - Semi-Check (Placebo affect perhaps?)
3) Better Battery Life? - CHECK
4) Stablility? - No Crashes today - CHECK
Happy with update? - CHECK.

It seems to have fixed the problem I was having where the same 21 or so songs kept updating during every sync even though the files didn't change. It didn't do it on the initial sync after the update at least.
I also am getting more 3G bars at my house (3 instead of the 1 I was getting).

I have yet to test 3g fully, but battery seems about the same for me, maybe a tiny bit better. Also, the other fixes check out here on my end. Apps install fast, magnifying glass is super touchy and responsive. No typing or contacts lag and super clean transitions. if saafari doesn't crash I will be one happy camper.
The update has more than surpassed the 1.4 firmware which was previously the most stable until now.
This is the way the iPhone is supposed to work. Now if apple would stop playing games with the app store and allow some real power apps.

I'm not one who believes the old cliche "Things seem to be moving faster now" after every update, but I actually really believe that to be the case this time. I was noticing some major lag time when moving between menus and opening apps. Not anymore. Things move along much faster, just like they did on the older model. No more keyboard lag either.
I can't speak on battery life or call quality yet though, but Genius Playlists and faster navigation is a plus.

I feel like Apple has finally given us release-quality firmware with 2.1.

Text messaging is faster
contacts work better
3G has better service
battery didn't drain as much on 3G overnight
sounds seem to be working better
I'm digging it

A little to early for me to say fully, however I have seen some changes for the better in performance and overall stability. I have also seen 3G network signal about 1 to 2 bars better in the areas that had issue before. syncing seems to be much faster and smoother. As for apps not sure as of yet, but from what I have seen I do have hope.
over all seems to be what 2.0 should have been in the first place.

The louder speakers took me by surprise a bit. Only just installed it so not really had a chance to test it, but it does feel quicker to navigate. It feels more like the 1st gen iPhone to use (that is a good thing).

Safari has crashed on me a few times since 2.1. Basically I'll be surfing digg or slashdot, and the screen will go black (with only the title bar showing) and it will then dump to the home screen.
I've also had the app store crash on me once.
However, it seems that I don't have lag sending SMS, and bringing up the contacts is much faster.

I still get the backspacing problem. Sometimes, when replying to an online forum and I backspace to delete a character, it goes wild and continues to automatically backspace, deleting multiple lines of input, often the whole text field.

That bug has prompted more frustration (sometimes bordering on all out fury!) from me than any of the others! And is it just me, or does it only seem to do it when you've typed a lot, not just a short entry? Usually when it's something you've put some real thought into, that can't be easily retyped without having to rethink it!

I know nothing was mentioned in the update log, but has anything been improved with the alarm such as it not going off at all if you receive a message/missed call in the night or making it still work when the phone is off (like my Nokia's and Sony's always have!)?

I don't think the "wake-up" feature has been added to the iPhone as of 2.1. When it is off, it is still off.

Backup of about 2GB) used to take 7 hours. SEVEN.
Now it takes minutes.

huh, you can not turn something on if it is off that way, that has to be done from the power button. only time you can wake it if it's in standby not off.

Downloading apps is now a breeze. It takes about a minute. With 2.0.2, 2.0.1, and 2.0 I gave up on download an app from my iPhone 3G, I started downloading all of them on iTunes on my Mac. Thank you Apple for fixing all the glitches! I'm so happy with my iPhone 3G right now.

Now I installed newer version of Itunes 8 and try to upgrade the new version on my iphone 3g 2.1 its been 2 days I tried upgrading either it comes out as an error or its unfinished. It takes too freaking long last night i left it for upgrade and still it wasn't completed. It was still backing up. any suggestions ?

uncheck all the apps, the apps are what makes the backups slow. the more apps you have the slower the backup.

also photos in the camera roll. I had 525 photos taken on my iPhone and they made the backup take hours. I copied them to my desktop and deleted them from my phone. Now backups take less than a minute. Note that only photos taken on the phone (camera roll) count as part of the backup. The others are media synced from your desktop just like music and video.

I just now realized that you can now triple-click the headset button to go back to a previous song. This did not work before the 2.1 update.

Yeah, it never happens when replying with a simple "yes" or "no". :(

Yes, that was certainly a nice surprise. :)
Yeah, it never happens when replying with a simple "yes" or "no". :(I would imagine the longer you spend typing something out, the higher chance of this happening, though I've never experienced it myself so I'm just speculating.

Some.
the contacts works way faster now. that had been annoying me.
the 3g calling is still useless. 1st 3g call after the update the phone dropped it in 10 minutes. switched back to Edge and bingo 43 minutes uninterrupted.
3 updates and they still haven't fixed the 3g. the fact is they can't. the phone has a design or implementation flaw with the 3g calling.
it still kicks the crap out of a blackberry or WM device though. still over all happy but not happy about being a beta tester.

Nokia's unlocked E51, N81 are right around the iPhone prices. Probably less buggy too. I'm mulling whether to try the iPhone.
