iPhone 3G availability

I live in Malta and as you might know the iPhone is not yet available. Is it possible to buy and iPhone from an Apple Store to functionate in Malta?

There isn't a software unlock out yet but functionate is now my new favorite word

Hi, well i don't think that word exsists. I didn't mean a sim unlock, I thought that at & t were selling phones without contract!

They said they were going to, but havent done so yet. When they announced it they said later so later hasnt happened yet. When it does then you should be able to make it functionate.
