I know that "system hang" is a unknown concept in Mac, but surprisingly my iPhone hangs too often. Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks in advance,
parsifal

I have a Windows Vista PC and an iMac and I have no idea what hang means when it comes to electronics.

What do you mean your iPhone "hangs"? Does it freeze to the point that only a hard reset (by holding down both the sleep button and home button) will solve the problem? Or do certain applications freeze, in which case holding down the home button alone for 6-8 seconds should force-quit the app in question? Also, how often is "too often"?

Thanks for your attention.

I havent installed any new apps from AppStore. I m using only the ones that come with iPhone. The "hang" happens when I m using one of those applications.

It happens once in 2 weeks (i discarded the first few incidents as cases of inadvertent button presses by me, but the consistent recurrence convinced me the problem is with the device)

The latest and the most annoying incident happened yesterday when I was using the Maps and Location Services. The iPhone just shut down. I have no clue what happened, but I definitely didnt initiate the shutdown.

Also, the contacts takes a while to load.

Again, I appreciate your help in this.

Thanks,
parsifal

First, the issue of contacts taking a while to load is a known problem. Hopefully it will be fixed in the upcoming firmware update (2.1).

I have no clue what caused your iPhone to shut down while using Maps. I do know that a lot of poeple are having stability issues like you once they've upgraded to firmware 2.0.2, but I have not heard of an incident where an iPhone suddenly shuts down. I hope it's an isolated incident that will not manifest itself again.

I wouldn't call "once every two weeks" very often. I'd start to worry if it were once every two days. Stability-wise the iPhone still has a lot to be desired. You're definitely not the only one. :)

Thanks daihard,
iPhone was my first rendezvous with Apple and I m not very pleased with the performance (although I m still amazed at the user interface and the overall look n feel). I do sometime feel I should've waited for Google's Android.

Your inputs helped me trash some concerns of having picked an isolated defective piece.

Thanks again,
