I found my self having to restore a lot. Out of the blue my apps would stop working and crash back to screen at app start up. My phone would say I had music but itunes on the phone would say it was all gone. The only apps i could run where those built in the phone when I bought it like stocks calc and those types.

I was running itunes 7.7.1 and rolled back to itunes 7.7.0 and I have not had a problem for over 2 weeks now. I was having to restore at least once every 2 days since I upgraded to itunes 7.7.1

You might have something there. I never upgraded to 7.7.1 and I've never had to restore my phone.

I have had my iPhone 3G since it was released, never had to restore it.

Firmware 2.0.2
Mac OS X 10.5.4
iTunes 7.7.1
14 Apps
Non-jailbroken, official on O2 UK

Whether it is certain apps which cause problems??

It's not a matter of resoring to much, the problem I have is that if a crash happens during a sync of an app (a new one or update of one) what will happen is that non of the extra apps will work anymore (goes to a black screen then back to the home screen) all of the default apps still work. also what happens is that all of the music, movies, TV shows, pod cast are no longer listed like it's blank however itunes shows they are on the iphone and that space is used, but the list on itunes it's all grayed out and the only thing that can be done is to restore.

Now that I have stopped syncing apps at all it has not happen in over a week. this has something to do with apps for sure. and the more apps you have and the syncing of apps or updates of apps. puts you in a higher risk of FAIL.

If you do not sync a lot of apps or update them a lot, then I can see how you may not run across this issue.

well I have 6 pages of apps right now just to test my
Idea. With 7.7.0 I have been updating when updates show up and sync like crazy with no problems. I know 6 pages of apps is a lot but I wanted to test apps that might cause crashes. And I can still say no problems since rolling back to 7.7.0
I should also add that I run windows so that could be at issue too.

So this might be a Windows Itunes 7.7.1 and firmware 2.2 that is having problems then ? Those that said you have had to restore alot could you post what your running.

I was running
Windows itune 7.7.1
and firmware 2.0.2

Had to restore all the time.

I now have.
