Do you think that apple will make a software Landscape QWERTY for the iPhone 3G? I would assume that that is just a software tweak right?

I would hope they do, that's one of the biggest things I miss, the landscape keyboard in texts and e-mails. I haven't heard any plans to do anything about it yet however

That's the problem, you should be able to (like on the Samsung Instinct etc...) but can not on the iPhone.

...outside of Safari.

I'm sure you meant to finish that way, right?

Actually, I had heard about that but when I tried a demo in the store I couldn't get it in landscape in Safari either.

Either way it should be a standard feature available in any application where you will use the keyboard function.

it goes landscape in safari, no problem. but yes, for text that would be awesome.

It wouldn't hurt, but once you're used to it, you should be able to type with one hand fairly fast. That's one of the advantages of the iPhone - that you can hold it in one hand and type using your thumb. I can do that fairly comfortably now.

the point of qwerty for me is to be able to use two thumbs quickly. that'll always be faster than one hand.

In all honesty, I can type faster in default mode than landscape. I think it's because I don't have to move my fingers as far. It's strange, the first week of ownership I could only use landscape with speed, now it's reversed.

I always use both my fingers to type on the iPhone. I usually use the vertical keyboard when on Safari but I wouldn't mind having it in SMS.
