Hello,
Yesterday Google released new maps and finally covered my country... But the maps app on my iPhone does not display the resent update.
How can I update my maps app?
thank you.

I had sort of assumed that the Maps app on the iPhone used the google maps online database and that the maps themselves were not resident on the iPhone. Does it not?

I assumed that myself, it's only logical that an app which requires internet access will work with an online DB, right?!
Have a look for youself:
Search "Israel" in google maps on the web, and then search it again through the maps app on your iPhone... Notice that only one of them have actually been mapped.
BTW, I'm still using firmware 1.1.4.
But I don't think it matters since the maps update is only a couple of days old.

the maps app uses googles online servers. Most likely you will see the updated maps show up on the iPhone in short order. There is no way to update the app yourself.

Could it be that later iPhone versions will include the fix?

It seems that Google are storing the data used by the iPhone app in a different location to the data used by the desktop version of Google Apps. The desktop version has been updated; the iPhone version hasn't yet. Once the update has been mirrored on Google's servers your iPhone should pick it up next time you seacrh. The data is not cached on your iPhone, so no iPhone software updates should be needed to pick up the new maps data (unless of course Google change the source server address at the same time, but I can't think why they would).
Ed.

Google just launched their own imaging satellite that is apparently the most powerful non-military imaging satellite in orbit to date. It is capable of scanning an area the size of New Mexico in just one day. It has resolution capabilities of up to 41 centimeters.
I wonder if that's why Israel is now available?

I see Israel but no roads! Surrounding countries such as Beirut have roads. Maybe Google optimizes the maps for iPhone like they do with YouTube.
