Sort By Artist in Album Mode (or another idea?)

I have an iPhone, but I assume the iPod touch handles the iPod portion of it the same exact way. Is there any possible way to make the Album view sort by Artist name instead of Album name? I never know what the albums are called - I usually just know what the artist is.

My main problem is this:
I have a lot of albums with various artists. In fact, I have SO many of these that it makes my Artist sort view a complete mess. I've tried making them all compilations, but the artists still show up in the Artist sort view. I've even tried changing the "Sort By" artist tags in iTunes, but the iPhone just seems to ignore them. The iPod Classic actually pays attention to the "Sort By" tags... is there something I need to do to enable this on my iPhone's iPod?

If there are solutions to either of these two problems, it'll solve everything. I'd really appreciate anybody's input. Thanks so much!

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do. :(

The iPhone and iPod touch do not support compilations like other iPods. It's for that reason that I don't put any compilations on my touch. I reserve those for my iPod Video and Nano.

Coverflow, however, will give you what you want. It properly sorts albums by artist and puts all compilations at the end. But you're limited to using coverflow exclusively.

I've sent feedback to Apple about the lack of this feature. Maybe if enough people do it too, they'll put it in.
