Hi I have recently purchased an iTrip for my 10gig 2nd Gen pod. All seems fine with it at home, the problem I have is in my car (this is speicifically why I purchased it). I have a Peugeot 306 with a fairly decent Blaupunkt stero and I can 'just' about get a signal I have tried a range of frequencies but finding a clear one in the North East of England is proving tricky. Does anyone know of any problems with particular cars or locations?

Where is the aerial on your car?

Arial is on the roof. The range of broadcast seems rather odd, my hi fi at home the pod has to be right next to it. Yet at work the little office radio can pick it up across the room.

Yeah - I had this same problem in my own car - I figured that because the aerial is on the roof, the (weak) signal from the iTrip is having to pass through a great sheet of metal (the roof) to get to the aerial, hence poor reception.

where is the volume when you are playing. Have you tried a range of volumes? The volume seems to correspond to sognal strength (although not too loud or it will distort). I have great luck with my itrip (and the antenna is about 6 + feet away at the back of the roof of my m class), But at home I have a radio that it has to sit next to to get signal.

You may also have a bad itrip. Can you exchange it or try another?

Last thing. I notice my reception gets horrible if I put my nokia cell phone down next to it.

Mobile is in suit pocket, but I will play around with the volume levels. Worst case scenario I can swap it...

tried for about an hour last night, range of frequencies and locations in the car. Altered the volume too... all to no affect. I'm guessing the signal just isnt strong enough in my car...
oh well back to the tape

Hey Beecham,
Quit the headaching man. I've messed around with a bunch of different fm transmitters. they all have the same problem, they just don't work. I know it's expensive, but it's the only solution if you like the ipod in the car. You have to get a new car stereo with an aux in. I got an Aiwa for $75 with a plug on the front for the ipod. I was about to spend $70 on an icarplay from monster because i was intimidated by putting a new stereo in by myself,, but it's cake. Only took about 15 minutes. Save up and get the new stereo,, i promise you'll be happier with it.
