I've been with Sprint since 2000 and I'm thinking about jumping ship over to AT&T to get the iPhone. My wife is also on Sprint with me (shared plan), so she'll be switching too (however she's not interested in the iPhone, not sure how that's possible :) ). What I would like to know is what is the best way to go about switching to AT&T (I've never switched before)? Should I go to an Apple store to get the iPhone there and then head over to an AT&T store to get a phone for my wife and add her to my new AT&T plan? Or should I just go to an AT&T store and kill 2 birds with one stone? Is it a pain in the arse to go to Apple and then to AT&T?
Forgive me if this seems like a silly question, but as I mentioned before, I've never switched providers before, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this.
Thanks for your help!

How long until your Sprint contract is up? First, if it's only a few short months, you may want to wait. If, for whatever reason you don't want to wait, then do as follows:
Research the phone. Is there anything on Sprint that you can't live without that iPhone doesn't have, or vice-versa? Too many people jump to the iPhone and then crap themselves when they find out you can't tether, or there's no picture-text. Just be sure to research.
Make sure you pay attention to the price plans and the two-year commitment.
If everything looks good, then simply take note of your Sprint account number and go to AT&T. You can port your numbers over to your iPhones. This will cancel your Sprint accounts, and you may have to pay an early termination fee with them.
I would just go to AT&T. You may run into stuff that can be done there that can't be done at an Apple store. It just makes more sense to me. Apple will not sell you a phone unless you get everything set up there anyways, so there would be no need to go to AT&T. If you need to go to an Apple store, just call in advance and make sure you can set up a new line of service with an additional line for your wife.

Thanks for your response!
Turns out my contract with Sprint is up...and has been for a while.
I will use the phone as a phone and surf the web occasionally, play games, no tethering on anything like that, just basic stuff.
My plan is to pick a plan, then add my wife as a 2nd line to my plan ($9.99) which I think I can do and we'll share the minutes, etc. My wife isn't into fancy phones (taking pics, web, email, etc). She just wants a phone that makes calls, and has a good speaker phone.
