i've been doing google searches but haven't found anything yet. theres gotta be someone out there who has cracked open an iphone and iphone 3g. actually looked at the hardware inside and figured out whats it's running. also i'd be nice to compare the two, see if they cut some corners on the new phone (despite the fact that they still cost about the same)

anyone know where i can get some detailed info?

Here's some info about the iPhone 3G.

It says "The processor shows Samsung memory markers." I believe the CPU is a Samsung ARM processor, though I'm not sure about the clock speed.

Note that the iPhone 3G has more internal components than the first-gen iPhone due to the added GPS and 3G capabilities.

thanks lots of interesting stuff. wish there was some mention of the ram size, cpu speeds and everything... maybe later

I seem to remember having read it has 128MB RAM and a CPU clocked at 600MHz (although my guess is this is underclocked a lot of the time to conserve battery life).

Or I may have dreamt it! :)

I'd like to see a reliable and reputable source on that....

I'd like to, as well. It makes sense that the processor is 620MHz since I believe the first-gen iPhone has a 600MHz CPU, but reliable sources are always welcome. :)
