I am having a problem importing a ringtone. Went to soundboard.com to import a Ferrari F1 ringtone. I copied it onto my desktop & then opened Itunes to import the mp3. It is not showing up on any list that I can see. Can someone help me with the logistics to import a sound into Itunes so I can use it as a ringtone for my Iphone (3G). Thanks

I have found that an improper AAC encoding or a ringtone that is too long can cause issues. I had the same problem when trying to write my ringtone utility and solved it by keeping the ringtone less than 40 seconds and making sure to encode using different bit rates etc... not sure if this is the definitive answer, but it seems to have worked for me.

A valid ringtone must be 40 seconds or shorter in length, and must have a .m4r extension. If length is not the issue, I'd suggest that you first convert the file to AAC (.m4a) using iTunes, manually change the extension to .m4r, and then register it with iTunes. Then the file should show up in the "Ringtones" section.
