when I hit the my location button on my touch in maps it states that I am in albuquerque, new mexico...however I live in new york. This also seems to be only when I'm at my house. How could this be so off?

well the map program puts you at the "location" of where the router is that you are geting wifi from...

uhh... maybe your getting a albuquerque, new mexico signal from new york ..

that would be some serious wifi

So i guess we can rule that out then.
My ISP is actually right down the street from me.
What ever it is, it is seriously f'ed up!

My guess is that whatever method it uses to determine your location (I can't remember if its GPS or triangulated cell-towers) is somehow bouncing from a source that's mis-recorded. For instance, a cell tower above your building that for some reason is logged as being in New Mexico. Thus, when you're away from home, and getting pinged from different sources, the accurate location determination.

or it could be that you havent refreshed your location recently?
just speculation on my point, but have you tried with wifi activated, and a wifi connection established, at the location your currently at? its not automatic, and looks for routers that are active and receptive, and if finding none, defaults to your last location. mine doesnt automatically find where im at unless i ask it to.

this is on my touch so I can only use wifi...my touch is not jaibroken btw. I have securty on my router so I only connect to that when I am home. I can take a look at the router but I don't think I will find it there. I my have to call my ISP.

Guess the answer might be easier. My location uses Wi-fine spots and a database to determine where you are; Basically looks for your wifi spot in the database which contains the location of the spot. So if the router you're connecting to is stored in that db with an incorrect location......you end up living in New Mexico.

Search in these forum or in google if you want more info on the topic; I remember reading various posts on this subject quite a long time ago.

I had a similar issue but it was caused by a move. We configured the network at the old house and didn't change anything afterMoving so we were seeing the old address as our location. We had to reconfigure the network. Is this a new router that maybe refurbished or something that could have been saved in the router settings?

Yeah, the info is set in the router. If you've ever lived in New Mexico, or the device came from there, it would see that as it's location.
There's a company that's trying to obtain data for all WiFi routers so I contacted them with into about my. Router and it works great :)
Skyhook Wireless is the company. Check them out.

It might be getting the info from the DNS server your router or ISP is using.

At work, I use a proxy server, so my websurfing cannot be tracked through the company's firewall. When I visit my own website from work, when I look at my web server's tracking logs, it shows a visit from Malaysia (the location of the proxy server I am using).

So - it's either on your router - and it is possible to change the proxy server on the router, or your ISP is using a proxy server in New Mexico. Check both.

Chaski has it right. You have to submit your info if it incorrect. I was having this problem before submitting my info and now everything works great. Go to the address to submit info:
