You can sync your own images that you want to use as wallpapers. :)

you need to jailbreak your phone and use the app "customize" or summerboard.

customize and winterboard don't seem to have the same options as they did on 1.1.4

Using Winterboard on a jailbroken phone will allow you to use your background wallpaper (in general settings) as the background behind the icons. Launching Winterboard will bring you to a very sparse menu, choosing "user wallpaper" and then returning home will apply the theme.
