View Full Version : Cool new fact about earbuds for those of us who don't read manuals...

I'll spare you the story of how I figured this out, since I feel like an idiot now... having had the thing for over a month now... so since I figure I'm not the only one who didn't read the manual:
Basically, the microphone on the right earbud wire is a button. It toggles play or stop on the ipod when not in phone mode. Double clicking the button skips to the next track. When receiving calls it answers; when in a call it will disconnect.
Again, I'm guessing most people probably know this. It's probably a function available on the original iphone... but a lot of us bought the thing on the 11th and still haven't opened the book which came with it.

Everyone knows that. However, one thing did get added with the 3G. On the 1.0 iPhone the "play" function on the ear phone button stopped working after the iPhone had been asleep for a while. On the 3G, single clicking it will make it start playing, even if you haven't woken the phone up recently.

About five minutes after posting this, my brother called and I told him. He'd only discovered it a few days ago... but I'm sure there are other folks who hadn't noticed yet.

I wasn't going to read the user's guide until I found the button on the headphones that came with my iPhone. ;)

So did you find anything new in it? Anything worth it?

The only things I remember learning from the User's Guide are this microphone thing and how the Calculator app turns into the Scientific mode in the landscape position. There may be other small things, but my brain's not working now. :)

I liked having the microphone button on the earphones, but I fell asleep with them on and my cat ripped them in half so back to non remote earbids for me. They were great for work when I needed to pause quickly

I must say that this is the first I heard about that! I just noticed yesterday that it had a microphone on it, but I knew nothing about the functions of the headphones.
