I just looked at my 1st months bill and its $210.

wait a second. I bought the phone the 19th.

the breakdown is $145 for monthly service

now hold on a second. I i have the $59.99 plan plus $30 for iphone data. thats $89.99

I have the $5 for 200 text messages plan.

thats $94.99.

they have another charge of $40 on my bill plus another $24 in taxes.

I was told the activation fee was $36.

WTF IS GOING ON? AT&T's customer support is closed right now otherwise they'd be getting a fricken earfull right now

This is a guess, but if I remember right from last year, it's probably something like $40 is the pro-rated amount for this month, and then you're getting the charge for next month, something like that. And yeah, funny how taxes make the bill bigger than you expected.

You're not the only one that AT&T took by surprise. I just got my first bill as well, and it came to $145 although my monthly bill is $69.99.

As Bitgod said above, the first bill includes the prorated charge for the portion of the first month and the full charge for the second month, plus the $36 activation fee and taxes. Nobody mentioned the activation fee when I bought my iPhone, but digging into the AT&T Wireless site revealed it. F***ers. :(

I haven't got my bill yet. But, a week after I got my iPhone I got a notice from AT&T that said exactly what my first would be with a breakdown of all the charges.

I had the same thing happen to me .. My first bill was 330, and i have a 26% discount from my work.. I Called customer service and they took $150 worth of charges off for some unknown reason that were there.. Not starting out on the right foot with this at all. Ive only had my iphones for 2 weeks now,,

got my first bill. it seems they were off by a day on my iPhone data plan: they started it 7/12 while i actually got the phone on 7/11. as a result, they've charged me some $20 for per-use internet on the 11th. on my way to a store after work to clear this up.

Got charged the standard £35 by O2. O2 haven't screwed me over yet.

I got AT&T to remove the activation fee because I paid it in the Apple store when I bought the phone. Total bill was then $116.

Yeah I thought I paid the activation fee at the store too. Going to check my purchase receipt and if it's on there I'll be calling at&t to drop the one on this month's bill

Mine was $117. I was a bit shocked I was planning on closer to $100.
They also didn't tell me about the activation fee, but I've been with AT&T long enough to know that there would be one. I'm hoping next months bill goes down a little even though I upgraded to 1500 texts cause 200 wasn't going to cut it. I was stressing out every time someone sent me a text I decided $10 more a month was worth not giving myself ulcers.
