iPhone 3G iPod vs. 5th Gen iPod (video)

I may not have the ears of a sound engineer but when I connected my $60 pair of Sony headphones to the iPhone 3G's iPod, and listened to the same song as my iPod video (same EQ settings), the immersion of sound was much more in the older iPod than the 3G's. There was deeper bass and much more detail.

Anyone else notice this with their older iPods?

I noticed the exact opposite while using my Ultimate Ears Super fi pro earphones. THese retail for $250 and are quite harsh in pointing out shortcomings of recordings or electronics. I noticed a much richer sound and no background noise or hiss to deal with. My 5G is the first batch though.
