View Full Version : View power as a percentage?

I'm curious... is there any way to view the power of my iphone via percentage? I've been through the menus, but I can't help but think that I'm missing something. I can't tell when it is fully charged. I hate "topping off" the battery because I don't want to shorten its life, but when you're going to be running around, you don't want to leave with a partially charged battery, since its life is so short.

Don't worry about "topping off" your battery, there is absolutely no problem in doing so. If you're thinking of the "memory problem" with batteries, that's only with the old ni cads of the old days. Li ion batteries have no memory and you can re-charge at will.

True, but a percentage meter would be nice. Li-ion batteries do take a "deep charge" that goes beyond the ability of the little green bar to read. It's probably a small percentage (maybe 5%) but it would be nice to know when the battery has actually completed the full charge rather than what the inaccurate little bar says.

When the battery is charging, the battery icon has a "lightning bolt" symbol superimposed on it. When the battery is fully charge (and still plugged-in), the symbol changes to an "electrical plug" with two prongs.

This serves as your indicator for when charging is complete.

Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks! And thanks to everyone else as well.

If you're still a little irked and don't mind jailbreaking...there's a jailbreak app that shows a percentage rather than the battery.

I've considered jailbreaking, but I still don't understand all of the ins and outs of it, so I'm understandably holding off. I don't want to invalidate anything or mess up my current setup until I find out what is or isn't going to happen.

^ If you're going to jailbreak the iPhone 3G, it's not going to mess anything up. The only thing that could regrettably happen is that if you have trouble with your phone and Apple finds out that you jailbroke it, you won't get any service.

Besides, if anything does mess up badly, there's always the Restore button in iTunes.

So, let me get this straight...if I jailbreak the 3G and later on something goes wrong to the point that I need to take it into an Apple store for warranty service, can I put the phone back to it's factory state? In other words, can I "un-jailbreak" it?

Good questions. I have a few more:
1. Will I lose my ATT service?
2. Is it legitimate?
3. What are the benefits?

1. No
2.?? Not sure what you mean?
3. Third party applications and freedom to put anything you want on it. You are no longer restricted by what apple provides for apps in the app store. There are tons of free apps out there. You can also skin it and add better media players etc... Too many things to list.
Break free from Apple, jailbreak out :)

1. Good.
2. I mean that this isn't breaking any agreement I have with Apple, right?
3.a. I like the idea of skinning... but is your idea of skinning the same as mine? I can add pics in the background, change the icons, etc.
3.b. What about Itunes I've already purchased? I've been ripping my own movies, but a lot of my songs are purchased from Itunes... plus I've subscribed to some of their other items, like season passes for shows.
4. Can I go back to the non-jailbrake OS if my iphone goes south?
5. Does jailbraking have some kind of power profile option to turn off 3g, wifi, location services, etc? That's what I really want.

YES! Of course it breaks your agreement with Apple. Jail-breaking = HACKING your phone. That's against the end user license agreement and that's why Apple will void your warranty if they find out that you've jail-broken your phone.

Get BossPrefs off of Cydia. When you open the application and click the "more" button, there is a button at the bottom to enable and disable the numeric battery indicator.
