iPhone not recognized in device menu

I can't get my iPhone to be recognized in the iTunes device menu. Any help? I can plug in my iPod and it shows up, and I've used the same cable for my iPhone, but nothing?? Please help!

i got an iPhone for about a month now, but i still cannot connect it to iTunes, because it doesn't show up under devices. The first day i got the phone it connected to iTunes very well and i synced my songs, but ever since that day my iphone does not show up on any iTunes(my friends as well) so i read a few post and took action. I am using a iPhone 1.1.1 and was using a iTunes 7.4, but i downloaded the 7.7 from what people were saying, but now when i connect my iphone it says i must upgrade my software, please help me, i cannot upgrade my phone because it will get sim locked and i will lose all my applications, and is there a way i can unlock it for free if i do upgrade my software version? thanks, btw i also use a ipod nano on the itunes

The new Pwnage program will allow you to update to 2.0.1 and still keep your iPhone unlocked as long as it is a 1st gen iPhone. The 3G iPhones cannot be unlocked yet.
