hi im new to this forum but have floated around the main site a few times before. I joined to try and solve the 2 fairly big ipod/itunes problems i am having.

1. Since recieveing my 16gb touch it has refused to show up in itunes 99% of the time, onlying appearing in itunes 3 times since november 07. it also refuses to show upin my computer (im running windows)

2. I reciently recieven an ipod shuffle a week ago, after connecting it itunes told me that i should update my itunes which i did, after which i put some music onto my shuffle. the next day itunes just wouldnt open (at all)

Prior and duing these faults my 30gbipd video connected to itunes with no problem (obviously not after No.2). Also i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes countless times since problem No.2 with no sucess. Earlier today i tried to install an earlier version of itunes but that solved nothing and also refused to open.

so those are my problems, sorry if i posted them in the wrong place, but if anyone could help me i would really be greatful
matt

Regarding #1, a Touch won't show up on My Computer, as the other iPod models do. At least, not unless it's jailbroken. It doesn't allow for "dumb" transfer of files, so it forces iTunes as an intermediary.

What version of windows are you using, and is it fully patched/updated?

Given that you're having problems with two iPods it sounds like a problem with the computer, not the iPods. Have you tried them on a different PC?

iTunes doesn't uninstall cleanly. Follow the instructions on the following page to completely remove it and then reinstall:

Uninstall iTunes, restart
Uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support
Reboot

Reinstall the latest version of iTunes, its probably a conflict with your iPod Driver because the iPod Touch/iPhone uses a different driver than the other iPods.

Check device manager see if there is a exclamation point when you hook up your iPod Touch.

I agree with Ed. It is ur computer.
I would back up ur comp and reformat it.
Yes it will be a pain but at least it will be a fresh start and everything will work again.

If u r not up for that contact apple and have them walk u through it.

There are ALL KINDS of reasons why it may stop working all the sudden, most likely of which being that Windows updated and hosed files it shouldn't have. (I'm not just anti-Windows, I work in IT and see that fairly regularly, although not as often with more common apps like iTunes.) System requirements for the latest iTunes can be found here, in the left hand column. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ And if you're PC is less than, say 5 years old, you should be fine.
