About 18 months ago I spoiled myself and purchased a pair of Etymotic's ER6i earphones. Suffice to say that I was shocked at the comparison between them and standard issue iPod earphones. I absolutely adore my Etymotics and would hate to have to go back to stock earphones for nay reason.
Because they cost considerably more than I am accostumed to paying in one go I have been trying to take exceptionally good care of them. I store them rolled up in a sealed tin.
Unfortunately I have recently noticed fluctuations in the volume level in the right earphone. When I wiggle the wires where they enter the gland connecting the wire to the jack the volume rises and lowers. This has led me to suspect that there is a loose wire in there somewhere.
Now I am not going to shell out another huge wad of cash for earphones which will bomb out on me in 18 months and I don't think it is my fault since rolling the earphones up doesn't stress the wire at that point at all.
So what I am looking for is suggestions on how to stop things from deteriorating further. Could I perhaps use tape to hold the wire in place so that it doesn't wiggle around? Has anyone else come across this problem with their earphones. I don't think it is too uncommon because it happened to my stop iPod earphones (the reason why I started looking for an upgrade; I needed to replace faulty earphones).
I don't like having to wiggle the wire aroun dtrying to get decent volume and then sit holding the wire in place so that it doesn't twist itself out of the optimal placement.
Many thanks for any suggestions you can make.
