View Full Version : Restore SMS from WM phone to iphone, possible?

hi,
I have try to use the search but not much luck for me, so i hope this haven't been asked before, are there anyway to backup my SMS from my windows mobile phone to the iphone?? btw i don't have a mac if that helps a bit =)

forward them to an email address from the old phone? dump them to a text file? Usually phones don't give you many options for text messages. Usually you just reply to them. Getting them off your old phone would be the difficult part I guess.

While this is theoretically possible, I don't think there is any software out there that will do this. Each mobile OS platform uses its own proprietary format for its SMS message database, so you would need something to convert from your WM over to the format the iPhone uses, and then "restore" that database to the iPhone as part o the backup/restore process.
Unfortunately, this would pretty much require a custom app for this specific purpose, and not only am I not aware of such an app, but I'm not sure there's a lot of motivation out there for a developer to bother doing this. The Missing Sync provides apps that can backup your SMS messages to your computer, but I'm pretty sure it's a one-way process for them.

Actually, The Missing Sync will sync SMS messages, but only in one direction (ie, it takes the SMS messages from your iPhone and stores them on your computer).

since you started it, i rather use a scanner to scan them :P

how can it be important to your email or note in a piece of paper?? same deal, some info are saved in sms instead of email/paper, that's all, sometimes something is good to be saved if is possible, that's why i'm asking...
