Still waiting for my 16GB to be delivered -- ordered it over the phone since they're virtually impossible to get in the stores in Toronto.
Managed to get my 8GB (which will become my wife's iPhone when I get the 16GB) Saturday morning (July 12th).

Yuba City, CA. I checked at various times to see if anyone was waiting in line on the 10th... went to a midnight release of Hellboy 2, got back to YC and saw three people in line, so I got in as well at about 3AM. Waited the 5 hours and was first out with my iPhone within about 10 minutes.

I went to the apple store in seattle on the friday and saturday of release, july 11 and july 12 , it was pretty wild down there , so many people waiting in line and trying to drive through the parking lot , i didnt want to wait like 2 or 3 hours so i just went next door to the starbucks and went back home both days , just a 25 minute drive . it would suck trying to shop at the grocery store right there with all those people and no parking , ahaha .
now im in moses lake , and ordered on july 20 , sunday , i ordered the white 16gb iphone 3g from the att store here , and it is ready for pick up today july 22 , tuesday .
so took 2 days on back order .

I went on launch day at 6:30am. Got out around 3:30pm. 9 hours... And it was hot (but not so hot).
Apple provided bottled water but I didn't want to drink too much.
People were very friendly but you could tell some were getting irked at the extreme long wait.

I was 2nd in line on launch day waiting a few hours before open(got there at 630am store opened at 930am. By Noon there was no progress as all of Rogers was shutdown dew to a computer problem that had nothing to do with the itunes problem. I paid and left for work, went back the next day and they were just starting to get my account ready.

went to the AT&T store (Chico ca) at 0830 and there was already about 100+ people in line on the 11th. Went home without an iPhone that day but put in an order for DF. Waited about 3 days and couldn't handle it any longer.
Drove 3 hours to Sacramento to wait in line at open for another 3 hours at the apple store in the mall. Finally got my 16GB white, and was no. 13 through the door despite apple employees telling everyone in line that they didn't have any iPhones , and weren't sure if they were getting more that day.

Jeeze Apple is still out of phones? I guess I am glad I waited. Apple store in the Galleria mall in Ft Lauderdale. Got in line around 7:15. Met this real cool cat and chatted till 12:30pm till I had my phone in hand. By 2PM phone was activated using my laptop in my house. I love this damn thing.

10 Hours on launch day, but I didn't camp out or anything.
Got to the store half an hour early, wasn't guaranteed an iphone due to line position and number of available phones. I waited anyways and because Rogers systems were already down it took 2 and a half hours to activate the first phone. In the meantime people got frustrated and left and I jumped up a bunch of spots in line to get the last of the 4 16gb's the store had got, I got a white one.
Since the systems were down they took our credit and plan details and started the process when they could. They let each phone activate for a couple hours, my phone was done at 7:30. They called, I came in and signed, paid for the warranty and walked out with my fully activated and unbricked iphone.

Well, where shall I begin? I wanted to wait until my stimulus check came, so I didn't go and stand in line at the Apple Store on the 11th. That Sunday me and the fiancee' went to an AT&T Store in South San Francisco. They didn't have any phones, but said something about direct fulfillment. I decided against that; told the girl we'd try back in San Francisco proper. While there, my fiancee' asked about discounts. Turns out she was eligible. I just wanted a damn phone.
So we wait until Monday and go down to the AT&T store near the Embarcadero. I do direct fulfillment. I wait a week to find out my phone is on back order. I don't think so. I cancel. We go to the Apple Store. They're sold out. I'm ####ed. I know it's just a toy, but dammit. I felt like a little baby. Oh, well. You want what you want.
FINALLY, the next day I go over to the store and me and the fiancee' stand in line for 5 hours. We get my phone and go home. FINALLY! I must say I am amazed at how much better this feels to use than my touch. YAY!

Got to Ala Moana at just after 6am and saw that there was a line about just over a hundred people deep. Waited for about 3.5 hours from that point and walked out of the Apple store at 9:40am with my new 3G iPhone! All in all, I'd say it was worth the experience since I met some pretty cool cats in line and we were talking about all kinds of stuff to do with the iPhone and whatnot. Also I'm glad I waited on launch day at the Apple store in Ala Moana, as the AT&T stores and Kahala Mall ran out of iPhones fairly quickly. I almost waited at a different AT&T store(one nearby where I live, and another nearby to the mall), but am glad I didn't as I think they took forever to process people and even ran out of phones fairly quick! Also, I hear that getting an iPhone even now is fairly hard since the stores run out of stock almost as soon as they get them, which means you have to be a little lucky if you go down randomly to pick one up.
