View Full Version : email notifications stopped notifying?

I've only had my phone for 2 days, but I've already run some tests with email. I had my email on fetch for 1 hour and roughly every hour I would get a little buzz and sound notification that I got mail.
I noticed last night that the buzz and sound stopped working though. I turned on my phone and saw I had a new email, but I didn't get the notifications. I did a test myself by sending an email to my account. I waited over an hour and no notification. I checked my phone and the email counter did go up. So the phone received the email, but it did not buzz or make a sound.
My battery was a little low at this point (but above the 20% mark). Has anyone noticed "missing notifications" before?
Does it have something to do with battery life? Like if the battery life is low, then it turns off notifications automatically to save power?

okay. after days and days of testing, i think i figured it out:
so it seems like the iPhone has problems with notifications if you have more than one account set up.
i have 2 accounts. if i go into the inbox of account1, then that account becomes "activated." then, if i am in the accounts screen, or if my phone is in sleep, i will get notifications every time it fetches mail from account1. no problems here.
however, it seems only one account can be "active" at one time. because if i get mail on account2, i don't get any notifications. the counter still goes +1, but no sound or vibrate. i just have to check it and see that the counter went up. all the time, i will still get a notifications if account1 gets mail.
then, if i go into the inbox of account2, then that become "activated," but then account1 is no longer "active." the same thing happens when i get mail in account2, i will get notifications. but when i get mail in account1, there's no vibrate or sound, only the counter goes up.
after hours and hours of testing this (probably over 15hours of testing), i'm pretty sure this is how the notifications are set up. can anyone confirm this?
i can't find any documents online about this. i've checked the apple forums and at&t forums, but no one has really commented about this. i was thinking about going to the genius bar to confirm, but i don't believe they can do the rigorous testing that i've done for the past week.
all i want is for the vibrate and sound notifications to go off whether i get mail from account1 or account2. does this work for anyone? do i have another lemon? (from another post, you can see i'm on my 5th iPhone already)
oh and yes, i have done rest, restore, etc..

Sadly, I cannot confirm this. I have a Yahoo! and Gmail account setup and it beeps and vibrates for both inboxes. Although, when I had my Yahoo! account at push, I did notice that it would just show the counter... but it was like a one-time fluke and you're not using push anyhow.
What services are you using?

=/ I am using 2 Gmail accounts.
hmm, your circumstance is not exactly the same as mine though. since you have one Fetch and one Push account.
Both Gmails are Fetch... such a frustrating thing. i might go to the genius bar to just get their opinion, but i really don't think they would know as much..
i wonder if the outcome would be different having 2 different services and not just Gmail along.
