Hi.
I read the following site, which briefly explains how to turn an iTunes store-purchased song into a ringtone for the iPhone.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/ringtones.html
What it does not tell me is how to do the same with your own song, either ripped from your legitimately purchased CD or bought from another online store. Could anyone point me in the right direction about this? I'd love to create my own ringtones, but honestly speaking, paying an extra 99 cents just for that is, IMO, ridiculous.
Thanks!
Dai

It would be 1.98....99cents for the song and 99cents for the ringtone
Do you have a mac or pc

Yeah, that's why I said an "extra" 99 cents. :)
Anyway... I have a Mac. It is Tiger (10.4.11) running on a MacBook.

Hi.
I do have "GarageBand '08" on my Mac. Not sure if it came part of iLife '08, though. Can I use this tool to create and upload my own custom ringtones?

Yes with garage band you can import any MP3 file and then export it right into iTunes as a ringtone...but the lengh is limited to 40 seconds.

Hopefully that works...

Thanks, Eric. It worked beautifully. I have been able to create a ringtone from my favourite track. I've got a lot more to work on tonight!
I truly appreciate your help. :)

Thanks for looking, guys. :)
Now, I've got another question about GarageBand. Is it possible to add "fade-in/fade-out" to the ringtone that I created? I somehow thought the iPhone would automatically do that to every ringtone, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Thanks again!
Dai
[EDIT] Nevermind... I've figured out how to do it. "Help" is a great friend!

Thanks again, Eric! I will give that site a shot. I admit, though, that it's fun to create my own ringtones. :-)
