View Full Version : Any Success Stories w/ iTunes 7.7 & Touch 2.0?

I've seen many gripes about the 2.0 upgrade for the Touch, which also requires iTunes 7.7 to implement -- long sync times, loss of wi-fi connections, etc.
However, it seems that only those who are having problems are expressing their results, which is not unusual on a forum. It would be helpful to those considering the update to hear from anyone who has successfully installed 7.7 and 2.0 and is NOT regretting doing so. If there are success stories, please post your results and setup (OS, sync mode, etc.)

I picked up a 16gb touch yesterday to replace my Ipod Nano 3g and promptly installed 7.7 and 2.0. Not a single problem.

I had a problem, but I restored the iPod and it seems to be working fine, now. The sync time is still very long, but it seems to only be for backups, and when I'm installing a new app.

I've not experienced any major problems. So no regrets here. :)

Well I initially had many of the same problems as other iPod touch owners, but that's all been put to rest, and everything works great now. While on break at work, I log onto MySpace, Facebook, Gmail, Near Pics, and can't wait to try out Zintin. The WIFI has problems here and there, but when it works, its good.

I bought a 16 gig ipod touch this last saturday. installed 7.7 and 2.0, not a single problem. what a magnificent device. i have had one of virtually every ipod since they came out (this is my first touch) and it really puts all the others (except *maybe* my 2g nano, which i still love and cant be beat in terms of batt. life, durability and size) to shame. well, not shame, but..well, you know what i mean. in the right situation the ipod touch experience is a really good one.

I have not had any problems what so ever. I downloaded and installed iTunes 7.7 a day before the 2.0 OS came out. I then downloaded OS 2.0 and restored my iPod touch with it. Just for kick, I conducted various battery tests over the past few days and my battery life has stayed the same. I still get about 3.5 hours while browsing the internet, 21 hours while playing music with the volume set to 50% and both the screen and wi-fi off, and about 5.75 hours of video playback time with wi-fi off, the brightness set to a 50%, and the volume set to 50%.
In fact, I would say that my iPod touch is running faster and more stable after restoring and installing OS 2.0. I have had numerous problems with 1.1.4 which mainly occurred rather recently. I had many website problems where my iPod touch would freeze while loading certain websites and I had one instance where my iPod touch froze right after downloading one from the iTunes Store.
So yeah, I don't have any regrets updating my iPod to OS 2.0 other than the $10 cost. I am running Windows Vista Business SP1 with iTunes 7.7 and I use auto-sync. I sync about 10 apps, over 2000 songs, about 20 or so music videos, 200+ pictures, and a couple other things. Whenever I first restored my iPod, it took the usual 30 minutes to copy everything back over. That is the same amount of time as it normally took my computer to copy things over when running 1.1.4.

Generally pretty good experience.
Like others have said: ipod now seems to have very slight lag- contacts is the worst. Battery drains faster than before. But in general, seems more stable- safari hasn't crashed once since update.
I can't get my ipod touch to be seen by my work computer since I updated it two days ago at home. Maybe I need to restore it?

Well, seeing some good results from others I decided to take the plunge. No problems at all, except for a very minor nuisance where I'm getting playlists loaded onto my Touch that I do not have selected for auto-syncing. Love the Remote app!

The only problem I have is the long sync time but,I dont regret the upgrade one bit..with all the new apps out there it's worth the extra time.

No complaints, I'm running both in my iTouch without any problems.

I don't know if this is purely psychological, but I seem to actually have faster sync speed since upgrading both.
This would be interesting as a poll, I think you would get more feedback,

No problems here either. I updated, which did take a while since I have an old computer which does not have USB 2.0 connectivity and I have several DVD/Movies on the Touch. But once that compeleted no problems so far.
I know WiFi works since I set up an email account with my Internet provider (Verizon FIOS) and was able to connect to my home router (Linksys) and download email to the iPod Touch.

Pretty smooth in experience with iPod Touch 2.0 and iTunes 7.7.
I had iPod 1.1.4 jailbreak....gave that up when I purchased 2.0 as I wanted the Exchange push mail.....very happy with that set up. I do notice synching does take a little longer, but no wifi connectivity loss.
Very happy the upgrades.

My touch is running like a champ on 2.0 I even perceive my wi-fi connecting has improved. Bravo Apple. Touch is now like a SUB-COMPACT laptop.

I just upgraded to 2.0 yesterday and so far I haven't had any real problems. (I did notice a slight increase in battery drain though.)
My only issue was having to re-authorize my computer for iTunes. (I haven't had to do that with any other upgrades). I didn't get any error messages and thought the upgrade was just fine until I went to use my Touch this morning and found that none of my iTunes purchased music would play. I was afraid I had really bollixed things up and was really relieved when I found that re-authorizing took care of the problem.
I haven't tried any apps yet so I can't say anything about them. (I'm looking forward to trying some though.)

Mine works pretty good. Litte longer on startup. Only thing I have an issue with is the email. When you click it, a few seconds later, it goes back to desktop. Even when I set it up, it doesn't work.
