Before I purchase the iPhone 3G (2.0), I want to make sure it can handle the following scenario:

Computer #1 - Work Laptop; PC; Outlook (XP); Microsoft Exchange Server
Includes: Work Calendar, All Contacts, Email

Computer #2 - Home Desktop; PC; Outlook (Vista)
Includes: Family Calendar, All Contacts, no email, iTunes library

Here is what I want to be able to do:

- Receive push email, contacts, work calendar wirelessly (this is a work IT feature) from our work Microsoft Exchange Server. Up to now, this has worked well with my Treo to keep my Treo and Outlook synchronized. Therefore, I ~should~ be able to have my Work Calendar, All Contacts, Email automatically pushed to my iPhone.

- Sync my Work Calendar and All Contacts with my home desktop so that the Family Calendar merges with the Work Calendar and All Contacts are available in three locations (iPhone, Work Laptop, Home Desktop).

- Sync part of my iTunes library on the iPhone. I am NOT trying to get the iTunes content on my Work Laptop.

So the real questions:

1) Can I sync my calendars in two places to create a single master calendar?
2) Can I sync my contacts in two places to create a single master contacts list?
3) Will I need to physically connect my iPhone to my Work Laptop to perform any syncing or can it be done completely through the Exchange Server? (I understand I will need to physically connect the iPhone to my home desktop.)

Thanks for any help.

I am trying to do the same thing. Have you received an answer? Thanks.

Hi,

I'm another user who's eyeing the iPhone and wants to sync the same way. Have you had any luck doing this?

Thanks!

I never recieved a response so I'm guessing this thred is a dud.

Being that I moved away from outlook on my home pc I never really pursued the task. Current I have exchange syncing nicely and at home my iPhone is my tool for calandar, contacts.

The only thing I don't like is when the exchange server goes down and you mess with the iPhone (thinking that it is causing the problem) you loose all calendar and contact info on the iPhone side. Only a hassle, all the info is still on he server but you cannot get to it unill another succesfull sync. This has only happened to me a couple of times early on. My company now has the exchange servers up a running pretty reliably.
