All -

I've heard conflicting reports about whether its possible in my situation or not, but I'd like to add aux inputs to my '98 passat. I do have the premium sound system (premium III, I'm pretty sure) and a CD changer in the trunk that can be unclipped. Also, apparently 98 was the year VW switched to the new body style, which I have. I don't yet have a picture of the trunk or console harnesses, but here's a picture of the radio.

My question is - has anyone successfully added AUX inputs to this setup? If so, which company's adapter did you use? I'd prefer adding the mod in back of the radio for a cleaner install, rather than in the trunk, but since my CD changer is broken anyway it doesn't really matter which.

For what its worth, I just got the following response from Soundgate:

"The 1998 Passat will work with our AUX input device that plugs in at the
radio in place of the factory changer cable. There are two parts you will
need, the AUXVW which retails for 109.95 and the VWCBLF which retails for
19.95. These will give you one RCA audio input to the factory radio. Hope
this helps, thanks CHET."

Ouch!!! Luckily, I've found a site that has the AUXVW for $66.12 and VWCBLF for $12.48, but they're out of stock.

Also, enfig has a new (coming soon) cable that will give a single cable to supply power and line out for $75 (needing the standard cable as well, so add another $65 or so.)

Unfortunately, from Christian at enfig I heard the following:
"That's an older style radio. I don't think the audio inputs will work.

Still waiting for a response from PIE or Blitzsafe.

Anyone tried any of these? I'll keep posting info as I get it.
