How can you get approved for the phone? AT&T needs to do a credit check the day they give the phone. So doing an early credit app only to have them do another on the day you get the phone will only lower your credit rating. Is it different at the Apple store?

You can do the credit check ahead of time. AT&T states it as part of the plan to be "iReady". I went last night and did mine. Now Friday morning I just have to go in and give them the card and tell them I was preapproved. Should save 5-10min.

Will there be a credit check?
Yes, a credit check is required. Come prepared with photo ID and Social Security Number. A deposit may be required at time of purchase, upon credit review. An activation fee of $36 will be billed to your account. Two-year contract is required.
Reduce your wait time on launch day, July 11. Visit the store where you will purchase iPhone 3G today for a pre-qualifying credit check.

1 more reason to go to an Apple store. They completely told me the opposite. When I explained the iReady from AT&T website they repeated them selves. That hour drive to Apple isn't looking so bad now.
No the whole be "iready" is crap, I went in to do the credit check and they said they were just going to have to check it again on Friday, so like the poster above said you will have to get it checked twice.
