What time Friday does the iPhone go on sale?

I haven't read anything about what time the iphone will go on sale. Last year it went on sale at 6pm.

Did anybody hear anything?

8am local time. One hour earlier than normal business hours. This holds true for AT&T stores at least.

Probably doesn't make much difference when the stores open. I'm guessing that there won't be any significant shortage of hand sets in the US. This isn't like the initial iPhone launch where everyone who was interested showed up at the stores. This time there'll be plenty of iPhone 1.0 owners who aren't rushing to upgrade on launch day.

In NZ they go on sale at 00.01 Friday (NZ time)

First in the world to get them. Apparently.

Vodafone releases it's plans today at 10am (NZ time)...will be interesting. The iPhone will be available from $199 (NZD - approx $147.42US)

The phone will be harder to find in non US markets. No question.

In the UK the iPhone will go on sale at 8:02am at O2 Stores, assuming you haven't ordered one online.
