5gb Mac Ipod arrives tommorrow, I am going to be using it on my Windows 2000 machine,

so here are the steps I shall follow?

1. install the windows update software
2. plug in ipod?

im gonna use ephpod cause I hear this is the best, at what point do I install this. anything else I need to know?
(and whats all that 'ipod updater' program about, it seems to be part of ephpod)

and I bought a dirt cheap firewire card, its 6pin - should it be ok?

THANKS!!!

1. install the updater (don?t install mmjb)

2. plug in ipod

3. format your macpod into a winpod

4. at this point you don?t need any of the supplied software, except the updater (for restoring or future firmware updates). so uninstall everything or keep the updater.

5. install ephpod and have fun!

as long as your firewire card has a via chipset you?re fine. not all cards are perfectly compatible with the ipod.

The chip will say "VIA" on it.

just opened up device manager and it says

VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

so i think i shud be OK.

for the update, are u talking about the firmware update on its own? or that 'ipod updater' program, that comes with ephpod

keep the ipod updater program, so you can do a restore if necessary. download firmware updates as they come out. you?ll hear about them here! ;)
