I have been using Meebo for a while now. Its ok... for some reason I get a loss of network error message a lot. I just wanted to hear from the peanut gallery what chat programs you are using??? I hear flickim is pretty good. I only use AIM so its not a big deal if the client supports all different servers.

I would just sit tight until firmware 2.0 comes out on the 11th. There is a full blown AIM chat application included with the update. For the time being you might try google chat which just came out as a web based option for the iPhone, or if your iPhone is jailbroke try fring.

Sounds good. I am ready for the 11th for sure. I would love to see a list of these new apps. I am kind of out of touch when it comes to what's going to be different on the 11th for current iPhone users.

well on the 11th there will now be support for microsoft exchange foe corporate users, and alsothe addition of the itunes app store. Many apps will be free, while some may cost anywhere from $.99 to as much as $30. How much mobile users are willing to be for mobile apps has yet to be determined.

I am all mac but I still have to use MSN... as Australians are all over MSN... the Mac phobia wall is pretty big over here... really, Australians are in love with Windows - well the young people are anyway...

i've been using Meebo for AIM chat. I also get the network problems. Overall, its pretty good though.

Regarding the full blown AIM app that is coming, it still won't run in the background, correct? If that is the case, how much better than meebo could it be ?

Well, since it is a native application, it will run faster and have a smoother UI. I'm not entirely sure it won't run in the background either.

Also.... What's it going to cost?? No one knows yet, but is it worth paying for??

the aim app IS free. It is part of the 2.0 firmware.

No, its NOT part of the 2.0 firmware at all.

It will however be free, and can be installed on 2.0 iPhone software.

Is aim the chat app that allows you to chat with msn and yahoo users?

deftdrummer... I have been running this same build that is about to be released for around... 15 days... and the fact is that this doesn't have the AIM app preinstalled in the firmware itself.

not originally. Right now its looking like aim will only support the aim protocol, but I don't know for sure. It will be near useless if it doesnt integrate other protocols such as MSN, google talk, yahoo, and myspace IM.

I've been using Fring. It gives me yahoo, skype, aim, icq, google talk, a SIP client, and Twitter.

fring is hands down the best app available to the unlocked community.

fring looks great...but when you say an unlocked community, does that mean it will only work with iphones that have been jailbroken?

jailbroken, unlocked, sorry... I use the term interchangably.

haha ah ok.

Is it hard to get the phone jailbroken? I am hoping to get it tomorrow, and then we look at it.
